What happens at a Jaflong tasting
A tasting is a private sit-down with our head chef where you try the dishes you are considering for your event before you commit. Most couples and event organisers taste three to five dishes across starters, mains and sides, then adjust spice levels, protein choices and portion sizes on the spot. Tastings usually last around 45 minutes and take place by arrangement from our Richmond kitchen at 16 Ashburnham Road, TW10 7NF.
How to prepare
- Bring your event date, venue and rough guest number.
- List every dietary requirement — halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut allergies.
- Tell us the serving style you want: buffet, warm holding, drop-off or food stalls.
- Shortlist dishes from our menu so the session stays focused.
Cost and booking terms
- Tastings are chargeable and redeemable against a confirmed booking.
- Slots are confirmed by email within 4 business hours of your request.
- Please give at least 48 hours' notice to move or cancel a session.
- We cater across Richmond upon Thames, Kingston and surrounding areas.
Tasting questions we get asked
Do I need a tasting before booking?
No. Many clients book straight from the menu and package tiers. A tasting is most useful for weddings and larger corporate events where the menu is being designed around specific guests.
Can you cater fully halal tastings?
Yes. All our meat is halal, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options can be included in the same session.
How far in advance should I book?
For a summer wedding, aim for two to three months ahead. For corporate lunches and private parties, a week or two is normally enough.
What happens after you send your details
Tasting sessions are arranged around the kitchen rota, so we reply with the dates we can genuinely offer. We check the date against our kitchen diary first, then reply with availability, a suggested menu and a written per-head figure. If the date is already committed we say so straight away rather than holding you up.
The details that speed things up
- Date and timing. Service time matters as much as the date — buffets are set down shortly before guests eat, so we plan the delivery window backwards from your serving time.
- Guest numbers. An estimate is fine early on. Final numbers are confirmed closer to the event, and quantities are cooked to the confirmed count.
- Venue and postcode. This decides delivery, parking and access. Free delivery applies within ten miles of our Richmond kitchen; from ten to twenty miles a delivery fee is quoted with the menu.
- Dietary needs. Tell us about vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests up front so the menu is balanced rather than patched later.
