Working with Richmond Council's open-space conditions

Every event on Ham Common requires a signed licence from Richmond Council's Parks Events team, and the licence sets out what caterers can and cannot bring on to the grass. Vehicles are only permitted on marked hard-standing, LPG canisters must be secured and away from public access, and no ground pegs are allowed on the protected turf — we use ballasted gazebo weights and roll-mat flooring for every Ham Common booking. Our team arrives ninety minutes before the published gate-open time to allow the duty warden to inspect our set-up before the public arrives.

For the annual Ham Fair we run a full food-stall pitch with two service points, a separate vegetarian station and a hot-holding line that keeps rice, dal and curries at the FSA-required 63°C plus for the full six-hour trading window. Waste is bagged, weighed and removed to our kitchen — nothing goes into the Common's litter bins, in line with the council's leave-no-trace clause.

Formats that suit garden parties on the Common's perimeter

The Georgian and Victorian houses on Ham Street, Ham Gate Avenue and Sandy Lane back directly on to the Common and regularly host christenings, milestone birthdays and quiet summer weddings for forty to one hundred and twenty guests. For these we prefer a garden-buffet format: a marquee-side chafing-dish line with two hot mains, one biryani, two vegetarian sides, a dal, salads and warm breads, staffed by uniformed servers who plate for each guest to keep the line moving. Canapé rounds work well for pre-ceremony drinks on the lawn, and we can add a live tandoor for events over eighty guests where the theatre of open-fire cooking becomes part of the entertainment.

Every menu is confirmed in writing seven days before the event with a full allergen breakdown, and our team stays on site until the last plate is cleared. Pricing is fixed per head — no cover charge, no service supplement, and no hidden fee for the equipment we bring.
